ATV Crash!

We had to make a quick trip back to LaPine this weekend. It certainly wasn't planned, and it wasn't for any kind of fun. But I'm counting my blessings anyway.

We spent several days there last weekend playing with the family, and left for home on Monday about 6:00 PM. About an hour after that one of our neighbors lost control of his large ATV, and it came crashing through our "front yard", knocking over some smaller trees, plowed through the spot where Erika and the kids had their tent, demolished the picnic table, and after tangling with the iron and wood from the table it turned and ran into the front of our trailer. The impact punched a hole into the trailer and shifted everything about a foot off of it's footings. The ATV tires dug deep holes in the ground while it was pushing the trailer, until the owner could get to it and turn it off.

The owner of the ATV, Mr. L, said when the vehicle took off across the property his first thought was that he was Soooo grateful that all of us had already safely vacated the area. This could have been so much worse.

After we heard the news, a day later, of course we had to make another trip over there to meet with Mr. L and inspect the damage. He is going to rebuild the table himself, with new wood, and tow the trailer to a repair place to take care of the damages. Ugh. For him and us. It's just one of those freak things that sometimes happens. Instead of fretting about it, however, I am just glad that no one was hurt.

Here's what is left of the picnic table:
This is the ATV bully that seemed determined to cause damage. We can't help but wonder why it couldn't have hit one of the MANY large trees in the pathway and STOP?
You can see the front end damage in this photo.
On the inside, the impact broke apart some of the kitchen cabinetry. This is looking down from the counter top above the pots and pans cabinet.

Of course we took lots and lots of detailed photos, but this will suffice to briefly illustrate the story. Now we get to wait and see what happens at the repair shop....

Oh. My. what a HUGE blessing to your family that this happened AFTER you left. A tender mercy, indeed. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but so grateful that it happened when and how it did.
