Our daughter Becky is moving soon and does not have room for everything that she and Ben currently own in their lovely home in the country, so at an engagement party in her home last weekend she happily announced to all the guests that she was holding a "moving sale" and that everything was FREE. Nice.
Among other things, we brought home these two La-Z-Boy wing recliners which go nicely in my living room. However, this means a huge committment in Moving Things Around, and it also means I needed more muscle than my own two arms. Thank goodness my husband is the strong, patient type.
First we had to move out one of the old basement couches. Back porch for now? Anyone want my old sofa from downstairs? Then we removed the feet from one of our large overstuffed sofas in the living room (we have two), and moved it out onto the deck, down the wooden stairs, and down all the stone stairs to enter into the basement room. Ugh. Heavy, heavy. Ken did fine, but I think my end of the sofa was weighted more than his. The inherited "dolly", also from Becky's garage helped a little, even though it did go Bump Bump Bump down those stairs. We finally made it, though.
Next came Moving Things Around in the main living room. My strong, patient man decided there were other things to do by this time and he left the room. He's patient, but not THAT patient. I moved things this way and that way, and even sideways. The rug got moved here and there and diagonally. Finally, sweaty and tired, I settled on an arrangement that is not much different from the original, except that in place of the extra sofa there are now two nice wing chairs. Was it worth all the extra work of shoving stuff all around? yes, because now I have actually SEEN how many different ways things can be arranged and am able to feel satisfied with the way it looks. And it does look nice.
My strong, patient man thinks so, too, and he enjoys the reclining chair. Thanks, Becky!

Ooh, nice. We'll have to come over for a visit when we get back from our camping trip, and try out the new arrangement for a conversation.
Losing a couch really opens up that room. I'm so glad those chairs worked so well for you!
