The Happiest Place on Earth

At our YSA Ward "Break the Fast" meal yesterday, we sat with two girls who had been up to Sparks Lake with us in the past. One of them said that she thought the lake was the "Happiest Place on Earth", so there's the title of today's blog!

We had a great week. Here are my Lake Notes for 2009:

  • Paddling under moon and stars without a flashlight is magical
  • The fish "hatchery" is located in the icy stream in the north
  • 85 degrees at the lake is much nicer than 109 degrees at home
  • Swim suits are optional: shorts and t-shirts are more practical
  • Even with sunscreen a body will be tanned (or burned)
  • Even with bug spray, the mosquitos will sometimes find a way
  • A brief afternoon rainshower is a great time for a nap
  • Three trips to the landing and back in one day is enough
  • Gray Jays will take handouts from hands, shoulders, and hats
  • Chipmunks will shred paper towells and run off with napkins
  • Dutch oven enchiladas, pineapple upside-down cake and cinnamon rolls are wonderful
  • You can be dubbed "King and Queen of the Lake" by being good neighbors
  • Water snakes eat salamanders
  • The mystery of the ocassional "ROAR" in the woods is still unsolved
  • A few of the books that were read in camp this week: Shadow Puppets, Twilight, Brother Odd, Peace like a River, and Glenn Beck's Common Sense
  • Hitting the thumb with a hammer requires a trip to the hospital for stitches
  • Jumping from one lava rock formation to another in sandals results in a trip to the hospital for medical attention to damaged hands
  • All injured persons returned to the lake to continue the adventure
  • All camp meals are wonderful, and there's PLENTY of food to go around
  • The stars at night are amazing
  • The week ends too soon, and everyone looks forward to next year!

What great pictures...but some of your descriptions don't really sound like very much fun. Dad, did you end up at the hospital?

How many plants do you have left in your garden?

Sophie wants to write something also: I LIKED THE BEARS. (on our vacation to Yellowstone)

Nope, Dad didn't make any trips to the hospital. Only men who are named Steve needed medical attention. Other than that, they had a wonderful time. :)

Surprisingly, my garden fared very well. The sprinkler worked on schedule, and the deer avoided almost everything. (Deer resistant research pays off!)

I'm glad Sophie liked the bears. Will we see pictures??

With how highly you speak of sparks lake I feel left out never having gone. I hope that will happen someday. I Trip to Sparks Like with you guys would be so fun.

Beth, we'd love to have you and your family join us one of these years! Just plan to be here around the last week in July...that's when we like to go. :)

You will love it, I promise!

Oh, we do know how to play. Such fun memories...I'd forgotten about towing Mark around as I paddled the canoe. :)
