Eastern Oregon

While driving along a lonely part of hiway 26, I did a double take at this tree and asked Ken to "Go Back!" This scraggly looking tree is filled with SHOES! I took a few photos and we headed down the road wondering about it. How long has it been collecting shoes? What's the story behind it? Here's what I found about Shoe Trees when I googled. Another question: Would you leave a pair? (We didn't)

A little bit later, Ken did a quick turn-around himself. He loved this great big rocking chair and wanted a picture of it. The sign asked passers-by not to climb onto it so he settled for a standing pose. :)

Even as long-time Oregonians, we had never gone to see the John Day Fossil Beds. Therefore, we directed the final day of our tour in that direction, first to see the museum (which was wonderful!) and then a little further down the road we drove out to see the Painted Hills. Beautiful!

Our last evening was spent in LaPine, and in the morning we cleaned everything up and "winterized" the trailer before heading home to unpack, start laundry, and go to the Temple for our normal Tuesday night shift. Seems like we have been gone a long time, but life is still here waiting for us and moving along right on schedule. Has it really only been a week and a half?
