Next morning we got up early and soaked again. Finally we decided it was time to move on. During breakfast a kitty decided to join us. I almost called this post "Paradise Lost" because it seemed such a shame to leave... but there are more places to see along the way, so on we went.

Maple Grove Hot Springs
What a wonderful discovery! Somewhere in the hills (and on dirt roads) between Soda Springs and Preston, Idaho, there is a delightful place to spend the night. We camped at Maple Grove Hot Springs where guests have the choice of playing in a warm "therapeutic pool", or three outdoor stone hot tubs. (Warm, Medium, and HOT!) The pools are open 24 hours for overnight campers, so we took advantage of it. At 10:00 pm the few daytime guests left (3 old ladies, a middle age gal on the way to Jackson, and a chubby guy from Utah), and then we had the place to ourselves. We soaked in the pools for almost 3 hours that night, visiting with the guests, and then alone, with the amazing stars glowing brightly above us. It seemed almost unbelieveable to have such luxury and privacy in this beautiful, secluded "resort" in the wilderness.

Who took the picture of the two of you soaking? Was someone else there? Or...I can just picture you setting the timer, running to jump in the water, trying not to splash the camera, posing just in time for the little blinking light... Which way did it really happen?
Allen knows the Maple Grove springs area. What route did you take to there?
I'm guessing over Strawberry canyon, then up Oneida station past the reservoir. The alternate would be over Strawberry canyon almost into Preston, then North on the Hwy 34.

We came from the NORTH! Down through Grace and then onto a dirt road south to the hot springs. When we left we continued south on another dirt road that went up and over a pass to connect with the road to Preston. We did not follow the reservoir on our way out.
