What a beautiful day it was! With blue skies and just enough nip in the air for a sweatshirt, we all headed up the mile or so trail to Mirror Lake for a picnic lunch and exploring the early autumn wilderness.

The kids loved the little bridges...especially this single log one...hold hands everyone! Along the way there were also big rocks to climb on and slide down, other logs to walk on, trees to climb, and sticks to write in the dirt with.

When we hiked around the lake I got behind often because some cheery wildflowers stole away my attention. Like this aster:

Cow Parsnip:

Fireweed:

Meadow Goldenrod:

And Pearly Everlasting:

On the way back to the cars, when the kids thought they might be tired, we sang "Old McDonald Had a Farm" all the way down the trail. When we ran out of animals, we came up with other farm residents. Did you know that Green Tractors make a sound called "Mow-Ah"?? According to Aiden it does, so that's how we sang it. :)
What a pleasant day! :)

Ah, yes, I know that tree that Ken is sitting in with the girls! It's a great photo op. Love the flower photos - reminds me of those hikes with Marva. The girls' hats are adorable - what a fun outing.
