Following the program, and after Ken changed the flat tire he found as we prepared to leave the parking lot, we met up with Kevin, Erika and the kids at the park for a little water sprinkler fun. Our swim-suit clad cuties were entertained with water cannons, water jets, sprays, and even buckets that filled and thoroughly doused anyone who wasn't paying attention. Luckily, our little splashers didn't get bombed by one of those! When that got old, there was also swings and slides nearby.
Our afternoon was spent at Kathy and Mark's 100 year old birthday party for their house, with great numbers of family, friends and neighbors. Even Becky and Mike were there with their cameras taking candids and group photos of the event. It was quite warm outside, and eventually we headed back to our air conditioned house ((insert blissful sigh here)) where we were soon joined by Kendra, Polly and their families for a refreshing break from the heat. (Kendra, Chris and two children have been staying in our basement "apartment" this week.)
As the sun went down, Ken and I ventured out again for an evening walk. We followed the sights and sounds of fireworks and discovered that our very own neighborhood has a large fireworks display, hosted by one of the neighbors near the end of the road. They had permits, fire hoses available, and an amazing collection of professional-size displays lighting up the sky. What a great finale to a great day!
