Well, here's what we came up with. Pretty minimal, compared to what some of our neighbors are doing. First we had to find the light strings (somewhere in the garage...some here, and some there), and then check to see which ones work. (Not all of them do...so into the trash they went) Next comes the the untangling, measuring, and installing hooks for the lights to drape from. Up the ladder, down the ladder, move the ladder, up, down, move; repeat a few dozen times. The lights above the garage are actually a single strand, doubled upon itself. The icicle lights above the porch took more time than they were worth. Ugh. Okay, next year, we are getting new lights. No more icicles (they are out of style now anyway!) Know what's popular now? The big, colorful bulbs like they used when I was a kid! I always did think they looked great. :)
