Hometown Snow and Ice

Here's the aftermath of the latest snowstorm that hit yesterday! I'm not sure how much snow fell (8 inches...or a foot?) because the wind blew it around quite a bit. When we got out of the car last night in our own driveway, the snow was almost as high as the bottom of the door! After snowing all day long, the precipitation became ice as it fell, so now everything has a lovely, softly burnished, hard crust of ice. Still, since Ken works for the transportation department, he was up at 2:15 am to get to work. During storm events the managers are working 12 hour shifts, and his is from 3:00 am till 3:00 pm. With his studded tires, and after a couple of false starts, he was able to get out of the driveway and up the hill to the main road. He called from work saying, "The Eagle has Landed". Today is Sunday, but it is now the second consecutive week that our Church services have been cancelled. Some places get lots more snow, and more often, too, but this is the Pacific NW and it is unusual!
